To create useful habits is much easier than what you think it is
You probably try to create useful habits in your life every now and then. However, it’s more common that we fail to stick to the habits. There are many theories of what is needed to really create useful habits and to stick with them.
In a previous article the topic is analyzed from one particular angle. The “big stones” first. In this post, we are going to make it extremely simple and go through the only 3 steps that you need to create useful habits.
The inspiration for this article I got from a recently published post by one of my favorite bloggers, James Clear. In his article,“I’m Using These 3 Simple Steps to Actually Stick with Good Habits,” he explains his strategy.
The 3 step method can be summarised in three simple steps: 1) Extremely easy start 2)Slow step-by-step increase 3) Split the action into various repetitions.
As mentioned in various of my earlier articles, my passion for running and marathon training teaches me over and over again how this 3 step method is 100% applicable to create useful habits in my training.
To run 42,2 km (26.2 miles) seems insane for a person who never has trained to do it. In fact, it’s insane for any individual without the proper training. If you start from scratch and with the goal to run a complete marathon, it all begins with the first step: 1)Extremely easy start. What does that mean in reality?
To Create Useful Habits In Reality
Go out and do an easy jogging session of let’s say 3Km. Increase with 10% the next training, and continue like that (step 2), until you reach a specific millage without feeling stressed or fatigue.
Now step 3 comes in, and you add other types of exercises into your training program. It can be interval training to get better speed, hill repetitions to improve your leg strength. Probably you also integrate some gym sessions to train your overall strength.
As you can imagine, the program starts to be too complex to create it yourself. If you train in a not appropriate way, you can even suffer from injuries. Thus, you begin working with a professional coach, or at least you start using a professional training program.
What is important when you create useful habits for running marathons or whatever activity you want, is that you pay more attention to the habit than to the final outcome.
The expected results will appear by itself if you stick to your habits.
Exactly the same happens in any other activity. Take for example my online business. Of course, money is one undeniable and tangible result for a well-managed business. But how do you create useful habits to earn money?
Money is one of the results if the business you manage is done with a correct vision and mission in place. You must have a crystal clear idea of why you are doing what you are doing. Know your “Why!”
To Create Useful Habits Is Valid For Almost Everything
Applying the same 3-steps method mentioned earlier, a successful online business, should first start with one extremely easy step. It could be for example that you create a Facebook account for your business and attract a targeted audience.
The next step could be to add paid Facebook ads. Going forward, you add small but altogether essential steps.
Many people (and I was one of them) are so enthusiastic when starting the online journey that they put in money everywhere. Facebook, Google, Youtube, Instagram….and so on, they all get a part of your investment capital.
Instead, if you apply the 3-steps formula to create useful habits for your business, the results will come. Remember, a solid and profitable online business is a marathon and not a sprint.
To not get lost, you need a system, a platform, and a complete program that can support you when building your business.
There are many offers out in the market, and it’s up to you to judge what is best for you. However, be careful to not fall into the trap of all the shiny and “get-rich-quick” systems you’ll find when searching for your ideal program to support your dream.
