Become a winner in today’s turbulent environment with the pandemic hitting the entire world. Everything in life always strives for a balance. If there is a dark side, there will always be a bright side as well. After a night, always comes a day.
The horrible consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic also will bring positive effects at the end. If there is a loser, there will be a winner.
I do agree that it sounds weird at the first view, that you can become a winner due to Coronavirus. So, let’s dive into some facts to fully understand what we are talking about.
As you know, stores have temporarily closed, and some even have gone bankrupt as a consequence of Coronavirus.
Estimations talk about 204 million people making an online purchase this year in the U.S.
Normally, younger people are more likely to purchase online. However, this year, the estimation says that 45 and older buyers will increase this year by 5.8%. This is equal to 5 million new baby boomers buying online this year.
For a long time, digital commerce continuously gains a foothold in the total global market. Companies like Amazon, starting up in 1994, needed 11 years to reach break-even. However, year after year, the digital market percentage-wise takes a larger piece of the total cake.
A virus catalyst
With the lockdown and the chaos caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, the virus has been an important catalyst. The radical increase in digital commerce is here to stay. It will not decline when we finally get in control of the Corona decease.
The new “normal” will start up lower than before the pandemic. But it will be because of the general financial recession that will hit all economies in one way or another.
If you remembered my article back in 2018, we talked about the digital evolution as something that few have fully understood or at least accepted. The pandemic is reconfirming with all proofs you ever can ask for, that the new “normal” will be digital. In the article the sub-title was,

So, who are the winners and the losers in this pandemic tragedy?
Let’s exclude the vast pharmaceutical industry, that will develop medicines of al-type related to Coronavirus and make an extraordinary profit when introducing the right vaccine.
Hotels and airlines will go through a tough recovery period. Various hotel chains and airlines will not even survive but filed for bankruptcy.
When it comes to retail, many small stores and unprepared companies, will not be able to re-open. The losses are going to be too big. Instead, companies like Amazon, Walmart, and Costco will go towards a bright future. They already started to gain market shares during the pandemic.
The reason behind can be analyzed from many different angles, but the keyword for their success is:
Well, Amazon started their journey already back in 1994. Walmart and Costco have worked hard to automate their retail business during the last decade when noticing that amazon was their most “dangerous” competitor.
Before going into how you can become a winner, let’s recognize that the “work-from-home” mode will most probably continue after the pandemic. Some countries, like the Scandinavian markets, already have this mode implemented in a certain way.
The new “normal” life will go through a harsh and rough change. Fewer positions will be available as automation of all commercial activities will accelerate as never seen before.
The so-far light and soft discussion about a Universal Basic Income will restart, but this time more aggressively and with more precise goals and deadlines. We all have to face a restructuring of the world. Often it will happen far away from your comfort zone.
The Route to Become a Winner
The best thing you can do to become a winner in this new world is to try your utmost to stand on your own legs and not depending on anybody else. If you belong to the large group of people who lost their jobs during this crisis, you’ll know exactly what I mean.
We all know better now, what Internet and digital commerce mean. For many, it has been the way of surviving during the lockdown.
Now it’s time for you to take the next step. Never before you have come to a table where everything is served just in front of you. No matter if you have experience from the digital world or if you are a complete newbie, this is for everyone with the correct mindset.
