To enjoy life when approaching retirement, it’s about how to make the most of your money and time

Some years ago my wife asked me “How are we going to enjoy life when approaching retirement?” First I didn’t capture the question correctly. I mean, retirement is still far away. Further, I was fully occupied with a fascinating job at a high management level in a well-known international corporation.

My job absorbed 100% of my time and how to enjoy life when approaching retirement, was a question that seemed too far away to even entering my mind.

So suddenly like a blizzard from a blue sky, the company I managed was sold to another international group. To summarize a long story into a short sentence: My job was gone!

Among many different “wake-up” shocks, one conclusion covers all aspects. As an employee, no matter the level in the company, you are a variable asset that the corporation can handle the way they prefer. Forget about relationships, good performance, and lifelong experience and knowledge. You are just another piece to build somebody’s dream.

At the age of 50+ without a job, “ How to enjoy life when approaching retirement,” suddenly started to resound in my mind.

Fortunately, I belong to the privileged group who has been able to save money during the “golden” years as a senior manager. But so many people are literally put out of the game when losing their jobs.

As a typical baby boomer, we are indoctrinated that there is a big retirement fund waiting for you the day you are going to retire.

If you can trust me, continue to read the article, and I know I can be to your help solving your retirement worries.

To Enjoy Life When Approaching Retirement Is Very Much About Believing In Yourself

Believe in yourself
Believe in yourself

My personal case was also my personal “wake-up call.” From being fully absorbed by performing well as a successful manager, I now had to dedicate my skills, knowledge, and experience to think about me. To enjoy life when approaching retirement was suddenly on my lips.

Working sometimes around the clock, with little and sometimes no time at all for the family, to get paid (in my case well paid) and become a used and reduced asset when the business owner decides it should be the destiny. Is it the life you expect? Is it the life your want?

The lesson I learned is not to wait until it’s too late. Today more than ever, the business environment is switching fast towards automation with more independent entrepreneurs than ever before.

How long are you going to live from today? 3 years, 10 years, 25 years…?

Well, no one knows how long we have left, but the question I did to myself and that I want you to do as well, is:

How do you want to spend the remaining years?

Will you fill your life by doing things you want to do? Or is it going to be a daily struggle of how to get a sufficient inflow of money? Money needed to be able to live a decent life?

Sooner or later, retirement will always come up on your radar.

You need to believe in yourself, and take the necessary steps to enjoy life when approaching retirement. Realizing that you will literally have to work until the day you die, isn’t the life anybody wants to live.

To Enjoy Life When Approaching Retirement Is Not To Starve On A Tiny Pension
