How I learned to sell
Early in my career, I started as a vacuum cleaner sales rep. The best sales school you can get. It was successfully done through direct selling by cold canvassing. You come out to an assigned neighborhood and starting knocking on potential customers’ doors.
The first obstacle is to come inside and getting permission to do a live demonstration. The method to vacuum the customer’s home and leave dust piles everywhere helps to get the customer’s attention. When the time for the closing process, it’s not about selling a vacuum cleaner, but a healthy and clean home.
Every product and service has specific features. But you should never sell the features, but the benefit of them.
Indeed, sales skills always are good to have, but if you join the same system I belong to, other people will take care of your sales.
Yes, it’s true! You just bring in the potential customer, and a professional back office team will make the sale for you. When the selling is done, you’ll get a message, and the corresponding commission will be yours.
Skill #2: The ability to write an attractive sales copy
Once you have a potential customer in the pipeline, you need the second skill; how to write a persuasive sales copy. It can be through compelling messages on your website, YouTube videos, direct emails, or any other social media source that fits into your business.
Referring back to my experience as a vacuum cleaner salesman, copywriting is the technique to come inside the door.
It shows a small piece of the benefits of your product, and generate interest to know more.
Good copywriting should be like an appetizer before the big dinner.
“Now caught you!” may be your immediate response.
“I don’t know anything about copywriting.”
