Overwhelmed – the decision is yours.

Some people feel anxiety or stress others are just overwhelmed.

In the world of today, words like stress and even anxiety are common words in our daily vocabulary. Stress can be described as a health status and adding on anxiety, in the worst case scenario, even things like panic attacks can appear on the “menu”.

As always in life, everything can be explained, and stress and anxiety are not something that appears by itself as an illness caused by a virus. It’s true that people have different levels to afford stress, and the stress level can even be trained to a certain degree.

In today’s society, people with stress symptoms and people being burnt out are more common than before. How is that possible, with an environment more automated and with a tendency to put almost everything on a kind of “autopilot”? We should instead have more time to do more things, right?

It’s correct that more can be done in less time, but the problem of all stress and anxiety can be funneled down to one word:

Overwhelmed

In real terms, it means that your boss, your partner, the society and even yourself expect more from you. The automation of the world, with more sophisticated devices, softwares, and an indispensable Internet connection challenge a whole world.

We have all been pushed into a multitasking environment. Some good examples of that are:

  1. Wherever you go, people around you will have their heads focused on a smartphone screen, doing whatever task they have pending, or just chat with their friends.
  2. Making bank operations are easier than ever. A few click and voilà. Some years ago the same transaction required a visit to the bank, filling out certain forms and wait for a personal and manual assistance. Today absolutely everyone can move funds from one account to another with just a few clicks on the device of their preference.
  3. Shopping doesn’t necessarily require a physical visit to a store, but with a few clicks, your purchase order is on its way to your door.
  4. Tax authorities around the world have turned their activity into a viral system and whatever you need to do, it can almost always be done on the Internet.

The list can continue, but these few examples only pretend to show what we are in to…..and this is only the beginning.

So, why do we get overwhelmed?

We want more! In today’s society, we have access to more information, and we want it all. The corporations expect more results from their employees, meaning fewer people for the same workload. Your partner expects that your are going to get more done in less time: “Everything at your fingertips”. And you put pressure on yourself and need to be at least on the same level as other people in your circle of friends, colleagues and family.

There is nothing wrong with being more multitasking, much more informed and having higher levels of goals. But you need to prepare yourself for this new way of life. Tons of advice are out on the Internet about how to not be overwhelmed. They are all right and correct, but trying to come down to the minimum of points, indispensable for a non-overwhelmed life, you need to consider the following three points:

  1. Create a plan and stick to your plan. In your daily plan, you should always have at least two categories: A. Must be done today. B. The rest. The task falling into the group A should always be your top priority. If that means that you have to close down your inbox to your e-mails, then just do it.
  2. How to handle multitasking. This new and for many people strange way of working can cause a lot of problems. Multitasking doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do it all yourself. Delegation is the keyword. Do yourself what your are good at and let other people help you out with the rest.
  3. Dare to say NO! When your plan (and I assume that you have a detailed plan with scheduled time slots) doesn’t have a place for more tasks, say NO. Your boss, your partner or yourself will understand your decision, as long as you have an explanation.

When I left the corporate world a few years ago to work entirely with online marketing as an independent entrepreneur, one of the first things I learned diving into the digital world, was that there are tons of different support systems on the Internet. You don’t have to create your website yourself. There are experts out there who can make it for you. External experts can help you to create your logo, help out with copywriting, driving traffic to your Facebook or whatever social media you would like to use.

Thousands of people with an entrepreneurial passion and with the desire to run their own company, can do it now without a fortune as start-up capital and not even having their own product.

The affiliate marketing is something relatively new as a result of the digitalized world we are living in. As always, when starting a business, you need to invest a lot of time to get it up and running, but once there the whole idea is to get a business more or less on “autopilot”.

Running your own online business correctly will give you the freedom to be wherever you want in the world. Wherever you have an Internet connection you can work with your business.

Running your own online business correctly will allow you to decide how much you would like to earn each month.

Running your own online business correctly, taking advantage of all external outsourcing resources available, will allow you to not being overwhelmed, but living a lifestyle we all want to have.
