To step into the unknown can be anything between heaven and hell.
When you step into the unknown, you begin a journey you don’t know where it will end. Some people hate the situation, while others get excited, motivated, and even passionate. It’s all about your relationship with your comfort zone.
No matter what pattern your life has followed, when we reach retirement age, it’s easy, and to be honest, a common habit, to think that everything has been figured out in life. With the life experience, all ups and downs, it has all been covered, or…?
This scenario could be similar to the reality some decades ago. The pattern was close to stable with all the knowledge gathered during many years. Dramatic changes could, of course, happen if sudden illness, loss of a family member or close friend, or similar personal tragedies occurred.
On the labor side, everyone followed a ready-made framework. You worked hard, climbed the career ladder, and when close to retirement, you got your gold watch for long and valuable work input.
Seldom have you had to step into the unknown and challenge your comfort zone. Those were the “good old days.” Today, it’s all different.
To Step into the Unknown is the New Modus Operandi
As an old guy, I can still remember when communication was made through telegrams and telex. After many years, the world could use fax machines, and from there, technical development just got crazy.
Internet, WiFi, emails, Skype, Facebook, Google, YouTube—well, you name it—the world of technology is a thrilling adventure waiting to be explored.
AI is now available for anyone, and the development speed is going in one single direction: Up! This is a world of endless possibilities and opportunities.
For us life-experienced individuals, it can sometimes be challenging to grasp what is actually going on. From an early age, we have been educated, trained, and, I would even say, brainwashed into thinking we know everything. Life has given us wisdom, knowledge, experience, and the correct answers to every possible problem.
But…wait a second. Do you have all the answers? It’s time to challenge our assumptions and embrace the unknown.
“Unless we take that first step into the unknown, we will never know our own potential.”
Alan Rufus
Step into the Unknown and Conquer Your Comfort Zone
If you have ever done a bungy jump, skydiving, or something else, you have had to decide at a certain point: jump or not jump! There is no other choice.
When you are standing there on the ramp, those few seconds of decision-making follow a determined pattern, similar to the way we often weigh the pros and cons of a decision before taking a leap of faith.

Take the first step
Conquering the comfort zone randomly without proper preparation isn’t how you should step into the unknown. On the flip side, not taking action after preparing yourself is when fear holds you back.
“The act of taking the first step is what separates the winner from the losers.”
Brian Tracy
