Find out how to live your best life after 70
To live your best life after 70 has nothing to do with age but your attitude to aging. There is no more work to worry about; your children and even grandkids live independently. So, the question will then be why so many struggle to find true happiness when passing the retirement line.
I’m 72 and living a life I really love. Of course, I had to overcome certain well-implanted habits from the active working life. It’s a journey we all have to go through. Assume that you were working 40-something hours per week. That time must be replaced with something else so as not to leave a vacuum of emptiness. To live your best life after 70 is about finding this replacement.

-Bob Marley.
Sometimes, illness or disability reduces one’s ability to do the things one would like to do, but even able-bodied, healthy people can struggle to find meaning in their lives when they get older. It’s all about your mindset and how you deal with your life. You are in charge and also accountable for making things happen.

Your Plan for the Best Life After 70
Just because you’re aging doesn’t mean it’s time to stop having a good time—you can still live in your 70s and beyond. Now, more than ever, you know yourself, have confidence, and can live your life on your own terms. In that spirit, living your best life now, even at your advanced age, is not just a possibility but a testament to your freedom and independence.
We all are different, with different goals, interests, and life experiences. The following tips are based on my experience, and I’m convinced they resonate with most grown-up adults. However, it’s important to remember that your journey is unique, and these tips can be personalized to suit your individual needs and circumstances.
Start a healthy life
Who doesn’t love good food, a beer, or a glass of wine occasionally? No, I’m not telling you to stop that. But be aware of its negative side. Avoid fatty food and high sugar consumption, and be cautious with alcohol and caffeine. Instead, focus on a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and consider moderate alcohol consumption.
It’s about balancing a good life and healthy food and beverages. Eating healthfully will support your wellness as you age, reassuring you that you are in control of your health and well-being.
Exercise
To live your best life after 70, adding daily exercise to your habits is crucial. I’m not talking about training for a marathon, but do something every day, even if it’s only a walk around your neighborhood. Consider activities like yoga, swimming, or even gardening. Something is always better than nothing.
You will find that your energy will improve, your sleep will be of higher quality, and your health will be better in general. Sometimes, when I feel exhausted, unmotivated, and with low energy, I slip into my running sneakers and go for a run, which always helps me reload energy and motivation in all aspects.
Does this sound like a recipe for success? Good, because that is precisely what it is!
Plan your life
Too many sort of fall into older life when it should be the complete opposite. They show up as retired with too little money and too many health issues. If this could describe how you are dealing with your age, the good news is that it’s never too late. Plan your life to be healthy, happy, and prosperous. The results will surprise you, and you’ll want to live beyond 70.
Planning for and living well motivates you to want to live long. So prepare for it, live and enjoy your best life after 70.
Maintenance of your brain
After all these years of working hard, isn’t it time to let your brain rest when retiring? This is one of the falsest myths about retirement.
As an old and passionate marathon runner, I like to compare brain maintenance with physical training. I ran my first marathon at the age of 67 and have so far made 24 marathons.
Just like you need to train your body to run a marathon, you need to exercise your brain to keep it healthy. This could be through reading, puzzles, or learning new skills. Why should it be different from your most important personal asset: your brain?
By exercising your brain and maintaining good health, you will make the most of your 70s.
Find your purpose
When it’s time to retire, you deserve a slowdown in your daily life. However, the error many make when retired is leaving their working lives behind and entering a passive lifestyle. Often, life becomes boring with the absurd idea of living long. It’s completely the opposite. Instead, you should either continue working (which means not retiring) or fill your life with a new career and meaningful activities.
This meaningful activity can be anything you are passionate about. In my case, I started my online business. I do what I love to do, and as a bonus, it implies an additional income stream.
Whatever your passion is, do something!
How to Reinvent Yourself and Live the Best Life After 70
To live a long life, you must have a reason to live it daily. When the “vacation phase” of your retirement is over, by the way, a well-deserved vacation, you need something more than just relaxing and leisure time with friends and family.
After all your labor years, your “hard disk” is filled with knowledge, skills, and experience. Out in the world, plenty of people would love to, even pay, to learn what you already know.
