Every business must have a financial goal, but chasing the money could undermine your dream.
You have probably blamed your situation on a lack of money more than once in your life and started chasing money like never before. Of all excuses, lack of money is at the top.
It seems so easy to blame the money for not taking action on something. You will need money for almost every project you want to launch and fulfill in life. In some cases, more money than in others. But chasing the money can quickly become the goal of your entire business.
In my blog post “Why You Should View Freedom As A Choice, “ published one and a half years ago, we view money the same way you view fuel for your car. Fuel is necessary in the tank to get the car rolling. However, fuel consumption isn’t the only variable; it is probably not the principal variable when buying a new car. Chasing the money follows the same pattern.
To the best of my knowledge, neither Bill Gates nor Steve Jobs had wealthy parents. And they didn’t have monetary funds to play around with before they hit their goals with their successful inventions.
Instead, these two guys, now famous and indeed rich entrepreneurs, achieved what they did based on something far from money.
A burning passion for an idea, frequently turning into an obsession of high dimension.
The cruel truth is that your financial status is meaningless.
Both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs started their projects in their parents’ garages. They didn’t have any money for fancy offices and other non-productive assets. When it was time to find capital to finance the continuation of the projects, their passion and firm belief in what they were doing supported them in avoiding any significant problems that might deter investors.
By Not Chasing The Money, It’s Easier To Build The Correct Foundation
You can make a long list of successful entrepreneurs who have achieved their goals (without chasing the money), but money never motivated them to do what they did.
Read my blog post “How Do You Define Happiness?“, where we reveal the secret behind happiness. Again, chasing money was found to be the most dangerous and false driver of happiness.
Instead, you could see that relationships with other people are by far the most important influencers on a happy life.
You can have a huge network of people and always have someone with whom you hang out. However, relationships that induce happiness must be of some degree of quality.
If you are searching for relationships where you can learn new things and grow, you should always seek out people who know more than you do.
But how do you follow your passion when chasing your dream without going broke? As passionate entrepreneurs, we will always encounter naysayers in our network. They are everywhere. Don’t worry, you will find them. So, how to deal with them? Avoid them or just let them go! They will never bring anything that will support your mission.
But… if the naysayer is my own brother? Of course, you should not avoid him, as he is your brother. Instead, you should agree with him. When you are together, avoid discussing your project. Once your success is a reality, show it to him, and you will probably turn a typical naysayer into a new yes-sayer. (Could be a bi-mission for you.)
You must also be surrounded by people who believe in your actions. Not necessarily do they know about your project or business, but they have a strong personal belief in you as an individual. These people are crucial to your success!
Thankfulness, Happiness, And Wealthiness Vs. Chasing The Money?
What is it to be grateful?
In search of the correct description of what it’s all about, I prefer to quote one of my favorite philosophers.
“It is just that we should be grateful, not only to those with whose views we may agree, but also to those who have expressed more superficial views; for these also contributed something, by developing before us the powers of thought.”
Aristotle
As entrepreneurs or in any other activity, you will experience both good and bad days. However, you will also face challenging and complex days, marked by failures and setbacks. Your strong passion for what you’re doing is indeed the fuel that keeps the engine going despite the uphill struggle you might have.
Studies show that stopping the money will help you achieve your “Why” more efficiently.
Money can support short-term troubles, but you need to rely on your relationship with other people for a reliable long-term solution. These resources you can never buy.
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
Oprah Winfrey
