Who controls your life: yourself or somebody else?
To control your life, your own life seems quite apparent. But how is the reality? Do you feel that you’re in complete control of your life, or could your different actions and decisions be influenced by other forces?
The fact that we all live in a society surrounded by different groups of people implies that we have to adapt, change, negotiate, or use whatever word we would like to join the society we belong to smoothly. Indeed, it can be tricky to take command of your own life.
If you don’t, you are often qualified as a rare loner if your behavior and actions aren’t extraordinarily original and beneficial to people around you.
Whatever your approach to who is in control of your life, let John Atkinson Grimshaw’s famous statement, made over 150 years ago, guide the rest of this article.
“If you don’t control your life, someone else will.”
Remember, the truth is that all we do follow a specific pattern. If you refuse to be in charge of your drawing board, other forces will always be out there taking care of the task. But when you take control, you open the door to a world of potential and possibility.
Optimizing Path to Control Your Life
Many “keywords” determine how, who, and how much to control your life. Here are just a few: Belief, trust, faith, passion, fear, self-esteem, preparedness, skills, experience, independence…etc. The list can be much longer, but with these words, you got what I mean.
Every one of these words gets their place in your life. For example, your trust in something will impact your surroundings. If you’re 100% sure about your thing, your “trust” will probably transform you into a leader in that particular area. Passion, belief, skills, faith, and more will undoubtedly be a natural consequence. You become the “King.”
The same goes for the negative aspect of it. Fear and related attributes will have the same outcome but in a reverse way. Let me give two examples from my own life:
Skills, experience and passion
I’ve been running an online business for 10 years, helping senior citizens about to retire or who already have retired start their own online businesses. This business is a result of my skills, experience, and, above all, my passion for what I’m doing.
People trust me, and I can give them the advice they are searching for. As a 72-year-old entrepreneurial retiree, I have a lot of experience to impart. I’ve lived with almost all the problems my audience is facing.
When deciding to start an online business as a complete newbie, you will bombarded from everywhere about fantastic applications and platforms. Most of them are great, but they cost money! It’s easy to spend your entire start-up budget on all these fancy apps.
Based on my own experience, I recommend all my followers focus on only two platforms when starting up:
LaunchYou—It will be your new ‘home’ for your online business, where you will have everything you need, from initial training to coaching platforms to build your business and much more. The best way to start is the ModernWealthy training, a comprehensive program that covers everything from setting up your business to marketing strategies. It is designed to give you the necessary initial training to know exactly what the next step to take is.
Aweber – It’s one of the best autoresponders in the market, where you will build your most important asset for your business: an email list of customers, potential customers, and leads. Aweber’s user-friendly interface and powerful features make it easy to create and manage your email campaigns, helping you to stay connected with your audience. To make it even more accessible, Aweber is synchronized with your LaunchYou platform.
Lack of skills, experience and faith
In the same way, I feel like a fish in the water when it comes to all business-related topics, like sales, lead captures, and customer relations. Still, my knowledge in the technical area is the complete opposite.
When starting my online business, joining LaunchYou was advantageous because of the technical support and many of the ready-built applications.
The technical support I received was one of the most important reasons to go all-in, as my technical skills are at a very low level. And to be honest, I don’t like it.
If you, like me, need support on the technical side, you have two options:
- Search for external technical support. You can find multiple options on the web. Still, they are external, meaning they are not necessarily updated on your problem.
- Get technical support from the platform you’re connected to. By joining LaunchYou, you’ll get all the technical support included.
Control Your Life by Understanding Your Locus of Control
The psychologist Julian Rotter originally developed the concept of “Locus of Control” in the 1950s. He gave it the full name “Locus of Control of Reinforcement,” as he believed that our behaviors were guided by rewards and punishments (reinforcements.)
How can you use Locus of Control to control your life? Watch the video for some useful yet conspicuous tips.

So, where is your “Locus”?
Understanding the difference between internal and external locus of control is the first step.
The next, and perhaps most enlightening, task is to identify your external locus of control and see how you can transfer it to the internal side. This process of self-reflection can be a powerful tool for personal growth.
“Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one principle: Some things are within your control, and some things are not.”
