A retirement roadmap follows the same pattern as any roadmap. When you travel by car from one place to another, you have several choices: the fastest route, the safest, the nicest, or the easiest.
When you reach retirement age, retirement invites you to make choices, too. The retirement roadmap you choose is entirely up to you. But what if you could take a route that includes all the choices?
Normally, we start with the money. How much do I have saved? You make a plan for your financial resources, and here we go.
The problem with the “money route” is that it’s easy to be speed-blind. You spend more than you should. Life is nice for a while. But it’s like peeing in your pants: it’s warm and cozy at first, but pretty soon it gets cold and uncomfortable.
So why not choose a retirement roadmap that is fast, safe, nice, and easy at the same time?
A Fast, Safe, Nice, and Easy Route
Throughout our lives, we’re taught to make choices. You evaluate the alternatives and pick the one that best matches what you want. Sometimes it’s a good choice, but what happens if it doesn’t fulfill your desire or dream?
During my life, I have made many decisions: some good ones, but also choices that turned out to be complete failures.
With age, you become wiser because your experience, knowledge, and skills develop wisdom. When you reach retirement age, you know this second chapter isn’t endless. Therefore, it’s more important than ever to make a clever choice and create a retirement roadmap that gives you purpose, meaning, and joy.
Four areas need to be covered.
Health
Whatever your final goal is, if your body refuses to work properly, the rest is meaningless. It’s like getting into your car, and the engine won’t start when you press the button.
Good health doesn’t mean that you have to become a vegetarian and train for the Boston Marathon. Just cut back on sugar, lower your fat intake, and avoid processed foods.
Make a daily morning walk a non-negotiable routine. That’s all the effort required.
Wealth
Money again. Yes, you need to control your financial situation. If that means changing the lifestyle you have been accustomed to during your working years, face it and make a sustainable plan.
Nowadays, many retirees turn to side hustles to supplement their income. With the Internet at our fingertips, anyone who wants can create a business that brings in more money.
A retirement roadmap doesn’t mean that you should fixate on the money, as if it was the only survival choice you have. Treat it like shoes you need for a walk. You need them, but you don’t think about your footwear during the walk.
Self
This is the most underestimated part of retirement. Your whole life, you have served others: your employer by delivering results, your family by making them happy. But what about yourself?
In retirement, you get plenty of time freed up from your previous job. How do you use this precious time you’ve been given on a silver platter?
More time with family and friends. A later wake-up time in the morning. That’s fine, but what about yourself?
What hobby would you like to dedicate more time to? What projects could you launch that you only had time to think about during your job? Or do you belong to the huge group of retirees who have no idea what to fill retirement with?
In the video below, you will get useful tips on how to navigate retirement successfully.
Social
Retirement is one of the most brutal parts of your life. As humans, we are all surrounded by people in one way or another: colleagues, clients, suppliers—you name it. When you retire, they are all gone.
It’s a natural evolution, but it doesn’t mean you should live the rest of your life isolated as a lonely wolf. In your retirement roadmap, you need to reconfigure your social life. Be more active with old friends. Join other communities. If you decide to start a business, you will automatically get clients who now become an essential part of your social environment.
Who Am I Now? The Retirement Roadmap Nobody Talks About
When you retire, the title on your business card no longer applies. It expired! After the initial “vacation phase,” a question normally pops up in your mind: Who am I now?
You have two choices:
Become “Mr. or Mrs. Nobody” for the rest of your life, or fill the gap your erased job title caused.
Watch this video now and get the outline for a sustainable retirement roadmap.
This isn’t a video to hang on the wall among all the advice you’re bombarded with daily. This is a retirement roadmap I have been using myself…and it works!
“I see retirement as just another of these reinventions, another chance to do new things and be a new version of myself.”
Walt Mossberg
Your Retirement Roadmap has a Starting Point, the destination…?
As a passionate online entrepreneur, I now use AI daily to make work easier and faster. I wrote this article without any AI influence because it’s emotional (something AI lacks), and the topic is close to my heart.
My online entrepreneurial journey has been fascinating, with plenty of bumps along the way. Not until I applied the retirement roadmap strategy did I reach a fast, safe, nice, and easy highway. I don’t need a GPS. The destination is clear.
With a compass showing the direction,
North – Health
West – Wealth
South – Self
East – Social
